A few years ago my husband bought me Rhett Butler's People, a sequel to the original book authorized by the Margaret Mitchell estate. I'm so thrilled to hold this book in my hand that I can hardly wait to go to BEA to actually talk to booksellers about this. You might have heard of his latest: Rhett Butler's People. Initially, I couldn't believe that he bought it for me. Really though, this is the first ever book, authorized by the Mitchell family, that tells a bit more of the story surrounding Rhett and Scarlet. Rhett Butler's People started off, not surprisingly, with the story of his youth, his family, his father, sister, and school friends. This post is timely because I recently read 'Rhett Butler's People', which is Rhett's history. Rhett Butler's People by Donald Craig St. Great linkages with Mitchell's master-plot, and wonderful characterizations of people like Tazewell Watling, Rosemary Butler and Tunis Bonneau helped to make this interpretation of Tara really stand on its own two feet. Belle Watling plays a surprisingly central and complex role.
